Privacy Policy
TypeVoice is built so that we know nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no server of ours. Your voice and your text stay on your Mac. This policy explains the few places where any data moves at all.
1. What the app processes, and where

Nothing above is transmitted to us or to anyone else. We cannot see it, and we do not want to.
2. Network requests the app makes
- Speech model download. On first launch the app downloads its speech-recognition model (about 450 MB) from Hugging Face's public servers. As with any download, their servers see your IP address. No personal data is sent, and the download is not repeated. Hugging Face privacy policy.
- Update checks. Once a day (and when you choose Check for Updates) the app fetches a small file from this website that lists the latest version. Our hosting provider sees your IP address and the app's version, as with any web request; the app sends nothing else. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings.
- License activation. Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, the merchant of record, on its own checkout page; we never see your card details. When you enter your license key, the app sends the key and your Mac's name (as set in System Settings, so you can tell your Macs apart when deactivating one) to Dodo Payments, which records the activation. Once a week the app asks Dodo whether the key is still valid, sending the key and the activation id; if you deactivate this Mac, it sends the same. That is the complete list. Dictation itself never needs a connection, and the app keeps working for 30 days without one before it needs to re-check a license.
2a. What Dodo Payments knows
To sell you a license, Dodo Payments collects what a purchase needs: your email address (where the key is sent), your payment details, your country (for tax), and the licence key it issued. That data is held by Dodo Payments under its policy; we can see the order (email, country, amount, key) in our Dodo dashboard so we can answer support requests and issue refunds, and nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list.
3. Audio after each dictation (optional)
If you turn on Settings › Indicator › Offer the audio after each dictation, each dictation is also saved on your Mac as a small AAC file, and a Drag audio chip appears on the pill. Dragging the chip, or a row in Summary, into another app hands that app a copy of the file; from then on it is subject to that app's privacy policy. The files stay on your Mac and are deleted when you delete the dictation, press Delete Recordings in Privacy, or use Delete Everything.
4. Permissions and the clipboard
The app asks macOS for Microphone access to hear you, and Accessibility access so it can notice your trigger key anywhere on the Mac and type the finished text into the app you are using. The Accessibility permission lets the app see key presses; it acts only on the trigger key, and on Escape while dictating, and records nothing else. When you start a dictation it reads up to 200 characters before your cursor in the field you are typing in, only to get spacing and capitalisation right; that text is used on the spot and never stored or transmitted. It does not read anything else on your screen.
When a field cannot be typed into directly, the app places the text on the clipboard, pastes it, and then restores whatever was on the clipboard before, within about half a second. It does not keep or transmit what was on your clipboard.
5. This website
This site is static and sets no cookies. To see how many people visit and which pages they read, it uses Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that we host ourselves (not a third party): it counts page views without cookies, without storing your IP address, and without identifying you or following you across sites. Its fonts are served from this site. To show the price for your country, the page asks our host which country your visit comes from (the same way a checkout would); that answer is not stored and is not linked to you. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may keep standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security, typically for a short period.
6. Email
If you write to support, we keep the conversation for as long as needed to help you, then delete it. We do not add you to any list.
7. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children; we do not collect data from anyone.
8. Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or erase on our side. Everything the app stores is on your Mac under your control: Privacy › Reveal in Finder shows the files, Summary can export them, and Delete Everything removes them. The purchase record at Dodo Payments (your email, country, amount and key) can be removed on request: write to us and we will ask Dodo Payments to delete it, or contact Dodo Payments directly. If you are in the EU/EEA, UK, California or elsewhere with data-protection rights, you can contact us with any question and we will answer.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. Material changes will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
